Gold: Hima Das, MR Poovamma, Saritaben Gayakwad, Vismaya Koroth (women’s 4x400m relay) and Jinson Johnson (men’s 1500m)

Silver: Muhammed Kunhu, Dharun Ayyasamy, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Arokia Rajiv (men’s 4x400m relay)

Bronze: Seema Punia (women’s discus throw) and Chitra Unnikrishnan (women’s 1500m)

India won five medals on Day 12, all of which came from the track and field arena. The haul took India’s medal tally to 59 medals on Thursday, which included 13 gold, 21 silver, and 25 bronze.

The quartet of Hima Das, MR Poovamma, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth gave India second gold of the day as they won the women’s 4x400m relay event.

Middle-distance specialist Jinson Johnson gave India its 12th gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, by winning the men’s 1500m event on Thursday. Johnson had earlier won a silver medal in 800m event, finishing second behind compatriot Manjit Singh in a rare 1-2 finish for India. But Manjit failed to add another medal as he finished fourth in the 1500m event.

In men’s 4x400m relay, India’s Muhammed Kunhu, Dharun Ayyasamy, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Arokia Rajiv won silver after finishing behind Qatar, who broke the Asian Record with a timing of 3:00.56. Indian team clocked 3:01.85 to add one more medal from the track and field events.

Athletics gave India two more medals on Day 12 as seasoned campaigners Seema Punia and PU Chitra won bronze in their respective events. Punia won the bronze with a best throw of 62.26m in women’s discus throw, while Chitra bagged the third spot in women’s 1500m.
